It’s a craze that is sweeping the nation, and the latest person to get caught up in it is our very own Amer Abdallah.

It all began when Amer’s boxing coach Jeff Mayweather was called out by his brother, Floyd Mayweather Sr.  Jeff took the challenge like a man, and in turn called out Amer, who was just returning from vacation.  Although he was hesitant at first, like the champion he is, Amer stepped up to the plate.  Not only did he get an ice bath (with an assist from his brother), but he also announced he would be making a donation to ALS.

In the aftermath, he called out several friends and family who all posted their own videos the following day.

Videos like these are quickly making the rounds, with various celebrities, athletes, and everyday Joe’s taking part.  While the videos are fun to watch, they are designed to raise awareness for a very important cause.  ALS is a lethal disease that still has no cure.  This campaign has done wonders to bring awareness to what is more commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” and hopefully some day it will pay off when we find a cure.

Even if you do not have the desire to take an ice bath, please take a moment to educate yourself about ALS, and if possible, consider making your own donation.  Everything helps.  But it’s much more fun to get your friends involved.  So make sure to challenge someone today!
